Though everyone has karma and trauma with their parents, perhaps especially with their mothers, as a Soul grows, the specific love we receive from the one who grew our physical bodies and allowed for the imprinting of our Soul into the physical world is especially important to our development and path. We rise to our peak when we incorporate and integrate all the lessons of our specific karma and trauma, especially those connected with our mothers.
Whether that is because we are to learn to let go of the need for mothering to come through the one who physically bore us, to learn to care the same for the one who bathed and pampered us as they begin to leave this world, to grow our capacity to release attachment to the ideal of ‘mother’ and accept the mundanity of the person who occupies that role in our lives, to recognize that even one occupying this sacred role does not get to have access to us if they will abuse that access, or any combination of the above, mothers are sacred in the lives of men. Mothers invite us to gestate much more than just the corporeal aspects of ourselves.
The recent trend by corporate entities of preemptively offering prospective clients the choice to opt out of Mothers Day messaging ignores these truths. It reinforces the lie that the world should ever change because of YOUR specific desire. It invites the personal failure of imagining that YOU get to opt out of YOUR own reality. You can try, but it will always come back to you, often in darker and more depraved revolutions, each time, the truth. The truth is its own peak we all must ascend. Climb in light with full vision or risk falling into the valley below, only to find you must eventually return to that ascent and conquer it, sooner or later.
Choose your own adventure, but you will never avoid it.
Instead of running from reality and back down the mountainside, take a moment to reflect on your own relationship with your mother, with mothering, with receiving care from others in a nurturing way whether they are your biological mother or not... Allow yourself to express and heal whatever comes up. Take a few more steps up the steep path of self acceptance…
Here’s my go. May it bring you whatever it is you may need, whether that is anger, jealousy, affirmation, judgment, joy, sorrow, or love.
My Mother is a Mountain
I'm always meeting my mom
at the top of mountains,
where I'd never have been able to climb
without her.
She's alongside me
at the top of Great Walls,
where we remember nothing is stronger
than our connection.
Inside of me
is the most important peak,
where our Souls integrate
all we thought we had left
in the valley below.
We were never lost,
we always knew the way,
here we are,
now and always.
Happy Mother’s Day. Keep climbing.
The journey continues even after they’re gone. Thank you for this reminder 🌻
